The three I have chosen for this demonstration enable you to install Google Analytics, create Google XML site maps and further improve the Search Engine Optimisation of your blog.

Any questions please feel free to comment below.

Hi, welcome back. I’m Sean Clark and this is the next installment of setting up your WordPress blog. No technical knowledge required. None at all.

Now, last time we looked at installing a Akismet to help you prevent comment spam. If you missed that one, check out my blog where you’ll find this video. Now, we’re gonna look at three more plugins which we find very useful to install before we get going. Now, all we’re gonna do today is show you how easy they are to install and then in a future episode, I will show you how to configure them all, the ones that need configuring. Let’s get on and install these plugins. Very, very easy.
Okay, on the left hand side here, we have the plugins menu. From the drop-down, we go to ‘Add New’ and the first one we’re gonna look for is a ‘google analytics’ plugin. Now, this allows you to keep track of all the visitors on your site and is a very easy way to install the free tracking software ‘google analytics’. Very comprehensive, Google Analytics in itself can do with a whole series of videos just showing how to use and understand it. We don’t need to go that deep, we’re going to install the plugin and then i’ll show you in the future how to get up and running with Google Analytics and some of the basic stuff on how to keep any eye on who is coming to your site and how you’re getting there.

Anyway, installation. All we do to install a plugin is, on the right hand side click install and it gives you a popup, click install now. That’s it, no need to activate the plugin at the moment. A few bits we need to do before that. We’re just gonna install them today. On with the next plugin. The next one is another Google plugin and this one allows us to produce what’s called an XML site map. This allows Google to see content as it changes on your site and is a really really good plugin. Saves you having to do any technical stuff, it’s literally install and go.

By the way, this also creates files compatible with other major search engines as well so that they can see when you update your site and come back and crawl your site for new content. So we’ll search plugins for this. There it is, make sure it’s the correct one. install now. There we go, plugin installed.

And the final one for today is something called all in one SEO pack. Now, wordpress is no.1 choice for a lot of bloggers because it is SEO, search engine, friendly out of the box. All in one SEO pack has some extra unique features allowing you to customise search engine optimisation, you’re not going to need that but nice to have it installed from day one so we can do some bits and pieces if and when you want to.

So, again, we click on install then install now and there we go. We can go here to see the installed plugins. We have at this moment all installed. All in one SEO pack, Google Aalyticator, Google XML sitemaps and Hello Dolly which nobody uses but is a nice little jokey one that sits in there as standard from wordpress. so, that’s it. That is how you install plugins and as you probably saw when I was installing those there are hundreds and hundreds of plugins and if you’re doing some specialist stuff you may want a type of plugin to do something like display a twitter feed or display some video/audio or some other sort of content on the site. There are literally hundreds and hundreds of those type of plugins available and you just search for them within WordPress, very very easy. It’s best not to get too wrapped up in them. As it’s easy to get diverted. Really what I’ve put in there is the absolute essentials and all you need to get you started.

So, until next time, if you have any comments then please comment on the blog or you can catch me on twitter.com/seaneclark or you can email me. info@clarkstjames.com. OK see you soon.
