Sean’s Week on Twitter #9

Sean’s Week On Twitter

I Wasn’t sure this post was going to make it. I left for France midday Friday by car; arriving in Rouen for my first stop at 11:30pm. Expecting to be tired, and with another 450km to do in the morning, I didn’t think writing would be on the agenda.

Surprisingly I felt fine.

Much is owed to the fantastic French road network. I know the tolls are bit hefty, and if you and to travel on them everyday it could work out costly, but the lack of congestion when compared to the UK was a pleasure.

I was able to travel the 214km from Calais at between 110-130km almost non-stop. On a Friday evening in the UK you’d be lucky if at least one motorway traffic jam didn’t impede your commute.

Best was still to come.

Checking in at my cheap, €50 with breakfast, overnight hotel, I discovered to my delight they had free WiFi. This enabled a quick check-in on Foursquare, free marketing for Hôtel Relais des 2 Rivières, and me to post this.

So what’s in store for Sean’s Week on Twitter this week? A busy week on and off-line for the press, as the Huffington Post launches in the UK whilst the 160 year old, paper based, News of the World closes its doors. But you can read about that pretty much anywhere, so here are my interesting finds of the week for you in SWOT #9:

Remember When Twitter Was A Joke? No One Is Laughing Anymore.

Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey moderates a Q&A session with President Obama. A great article highlighting how Twitter has moved on from a geek obsession to a Presidential sweetheart. President Obama is embracing the technology like no other politician has done so before him, and to great effect.

3 Ways to Use Google’s New Search by Image for Link Building

I know Google+ was released but my invite must have been lost in the post. so whilst all the other important Social Media people have been talking about it I thought I would mention something else Google related. The new Search by Image function from Google is a great way to track down those using your profile picture, or indeed any other images across the web.

HOW TO: Measure the ROI of a Content Marketing Strategy

A simple 3 step guide to ensuring you are getting a return on investment from your blogging efforts.

UK based Mumsnet launches bloggers network

I have been spending time trying to promote my own UK based social media blogging group over the past few weeks. So I was very pleased to see this commercial effort from Mumsnet. Blogging can be a very lonely and thankless task at times, having other bloggers working together to help promote each other is a real bonus.

The Ultimate Question: Self-Interested Or Interesting?

My week wouldn’t be complete without at least one interesting post from Mitch Joel. In Mitch’s own words “Don’t confuse Social Media Marketing with Social Media Advertising”, read his post to find out more.

Thank you for reading my blog this week. The coming week may be a bit sporadic as I relax with the family in La Rochelle, France. But I am sure I won’t be far from Twitter and my blog. In the meantime if you have any stories to share please post them in the comments below.
