This is Episode 27 of The Small Business Marketing Report Podcast
In this weeks episode we talk to social media expert and author Gemma Thompson about her new book The British Book of Social Media Marketing.
Us Brits are a typically reserved bunch, with our own quirks, humour and habits. Gemma highlights how these attributes affect the way we interact online in the social media environment.
Whilst in the US things may be “Awesome”, here in good old Blighty things may just be “Quite Nice”!
As well as the good old British reserve our sense of humour plays a large part in our interactions. Habitual “micky takers” Gemma recommends some TV programmes that may give those living outside the UK and idea of how to approach us.
Where a direct approach and conversations about price may be at the front of many sales pitches elsewhere. In the UK we are more likely to discuss the weather for 10 minutes and try to avoid discussions of a financial nature altogether.
For social media this means you may see far less engagement and interactions from your British audience, who are more likely to sit quietly and observe from the benches.
Listen to this episode for more insights on the British culture and its influence on social media from Gemma.
