What a week! Busy for me and busy for IPO‘s too.
LinkedIn, Zynga and now Groupon all going Public, another Internet Bubble? Maybe. The big difference between now and early 2000 is that these high profile IPO’s all have huge revenues. A lot of the problem previously was severely over valued “ideas” rather than solid business models. I know Groupon has only been around for 30 months and is not in profit, but it’s massive 83 million subscriber base, 57,000 customers and $644 million revenue in Q1 2011 alone stand it in good stead.
So what have I been up to on Twitter? Well below are 5 of my Sean’s Week on Twitter picks for you, SWOT #4, as always please feel free to add your own in the comments:
1. Groupon’s Fate Hinges on Words
I have a lot more to say about Groupon next week but it is amazing that this company known for discounting and voucher codes employs so many people, over 7,000. But did you know 400 of those are writers! Read this to find out more about Groupon’s secret sauce, exposed in a great article from the New York Times.
2. 20 Creative CV Designs Which Will Amaze Any Potential Employer
Not that I am looking for a job but these CV’s, resumes for our American cousins, caught my eye. In today’s job market it is really hard to break through the noise. With a CV like any of these you are sure to make an impact.
3. Twitter Launches Follow Button for Websites
The first of 2 new button launches this week. I “like”, excuse the pun, this one a lot. Instead of just providing a link to your Twitter profile page people can now follow you direct from your site. You can try mine out here, hint, hint. Follow @seanEclark
This is long overdue, I do wonder if Twitter will miss the traffic though. Now people have another reason not to go to Twitter.com where is the revenue going to come from? Ideas on a postcard…
4. The basics of social media measurement for business
Okay I have discussed this often enough, Social Media ROI. This time though it’s a book by Olivier Blanchard. After reading his latest blog post I was intrigued enough to buy the book. I must say 2 chapters in and it looks promising, very well written and not too much fluff. Too early for a full review but worth checking out his blog even if you don’t want to commit to the book just yet.
5. Google +1 now available to add to your web site
Google +1, the 2nd button launch this week, is their answer to the Facebook like button. Integrating social into search you can now +1 search results, websites and pages. Your friends will see if you’ve +1’d a page and other users can just see the number of people who have +1’d it. The idea being that social recommendation reinforces and aids the search result quality. Integration is a little raw but I am sure plugins for popular platforms like WordPress won’t be long in appearing. To try it for yourself just click here –>
The weekend is upon us already, hope your week has been as productive as mine. Enjoy your family, friends, the solitude or your work this weekend if that’s your thing. Until next week…
